Unboxed and swatched: Etude House Wannabe Style Making Kit

You’ve got to hand it to the Koreans’ penchant for all things cutesy and fancy. Just take a look at this packaging!

The illustrations are made by Annika Wester. This makeup palette is part of the Etude House’s (EH) Wannabe Collection.

The top lid opens up to a fancy illustration with Korean jottings (which I think means “let’s play make-up,” as translated below it in English). Aside from being too cute for words, this feature doesn’t serve any function at all other than prettifying what already is very cute packaging. Unnecessary, but cute nonetheless. EH does not scrimp on its packaging!

Aaand…here’s the palette!

Usually, makeup palettes would contain only the basics — eye shadows, blushes, and lipsticks. The EH Wannabe Style Making Kit, however, has more than that.

It has eight eye shadows, two lip and cheek creams, a cream highlighter, two concealers (one flesh and one purple), and two cream eyeliners (in brown and black). Think of it as your whole makeup kit in one handy adorably-packaged box. I don’t want to sound too advertorial about it, but this power palette is everything you need to create a dolled-up look. Needless to say, I’m in love with it. With the price of only P1148, this palette is a steal.

Here’s the swatches.

Eye shadows on the top tier (The last one is from the bottom leftmost part, I just wanted to include it in the picture because it looked so nice here. ^_^)

From left to right: Light pink, purple, green, dirty pink, bronze

Eye shadows on the bottom tier

From left to right: bronze, white, black, pink

There are three varying shades of pink in this palette. You can use it to make an all-pink eye makeup look.

From left to right: Salmon lip and cheek cream, Pink lip and cheek cream, highlighter, flesh concealer, purple concealer, brown cream eyeliner, and black cream eyeliner.

There you go. Aren’t the colors marvelous? In depth review to come soon. I haven’t used all of it yet. So far though, I’m impressed with the lip and cheek creams, eye shadows, and highlighter. :)

What to expect

I’ll be having my midterms for the coming weeks so I doubt if I’m going to be able to take outfit photos. Nevertheless, I’d still be blogging though but this time I’m going to try and do cosmetics reviews. :)

My aunt, whose based in South Africa, came here last week and since I’m her favorite niece, she took me shopping! The only time I get to experience walking in the hallways of malls with a bevy of shopping bags in hand is when I shop with my aunt. She’s the greatest!

One store we hit was Etude House. If there was one makeup store where I can hoard stuff, it would be this Korean brand. I know there are others out there like Tony Moly and Majolica Majorca, but I’m really loyal to this one. Attribute it to the cute pink interior of the store and their awesome products! Their BB cream is also a staple in my beauty arsenal. :)

Without further ado, here’s the products I’d be reviewing for the next two weeks.

Precious Mineral All Day Strong in Sheer Glowing (P728)

Wannabe Style Making Kit (around P1,100)

Wannabe Perfumed Syrup Nails (P328)

Petite Darling Nails Matte #06 (P98)

Which one would you want to be reviewed first? :)

Review: Goodskin Labs Smooth-365 Intensive Clarity + Smoothing Peptide Serum

I was lucky enough to win a Goodskin Labs (GSL) Smooth-365 Intensive Clarity + Smoothing Peptide Serum from GSL’s Facebook contest a few months back. I have been hearing lots of good reviews of the product from stellar beauty bloggers such as Shen’s Addiction, Askmewhats, and Project Vanity. So imagine my surprise and extreme delight when I found out I won one!

Package came with a note from Rizel whom I worked with at the Philippine Online Chronicles before. :)

Since  GSL’s product is a mouthful to state in full let’s call it Smooth-365 for brevity.

What does this serum do anyway? Based on what’s stated in its packaging, it claims the following results:

Immediately: 71% measurable improvement in skin clarity in clinical studies.

4 weeks: 3 out of 4 subjects felt their skin was velvety smooth.

According to GSL’s official website:

Smooth-365™ perfects the overall quality of your skin instantly and promotes smooth, less-lined looking skin over time. Formulated with Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 and special clarity-boosters, it attacks dullness and uneven skin tone on contact and faces off against lines and wrinkles over time. This one technologically advanced product does it all.

Based on their claims, Smooth-365 seems to be a wonder product no?

Well, I can’t attest that all their claims are true since I don’t use this product everyday (I don’t want it too run out fast), but I can say that the smoothing and clarifying effects are instantaneous.

Check out the photos below:

(Left - before application; right - after application)

Off the bat, you’d see that most of the lines under my eyes vanished and my face is a tad clearer and more matte than before. I know you can’t see it in the photos but my face became smoother as well.

I used Smooth-365 as a primer too and I must say, my foundation held better than it used to. Smooth-365 + my trusty foundation (Shiseido Pore Mattifying) = matte and less oily skin for the whole day. The last photo is the one with foundation.

The consistency of the serum is reminiscent of Pond’s Flawless White serum, as it glides like air on my skin. It’s so light that as if I didn’t put any product on my face. I love this factor because I don’t like the feeling of putting too much gunk on my face.

Unfortunately, what this product doesn’t do is hide my humongous pores. Well, Smooth-365 wasn’t made to address that problem anyway. They have a different product for that — the Z-Pore Instant Pore Refiner.

In all, I’d say this product is worth its P2,000 price tag. It acts as a good skin buffer and primer, and it has anti-aging properties as well.

Summary:

Likes:

- instantly smoothens and clarfifies skin

- improves effect of foundation and makes it last longer

- has anti-aging properties

- feels light on the skin when applied

- product is filled to the brim

Dislikes:

- the price tag! (It’s a bit steep for a student - technically, I am still a student)

Have you tried Smooth-365 before? What are your thoughts?
